Packing Tips

Box construction

Use a minimum of three strips of tape along the bottom and two strips along the top of your box to secure it. Use one strip along the center line and one on each side of the line. This will give your box a sturdier construction and lessen the risk of the bottom of the box falling out when our men are carrying it.

Pack all boxes completely and fill each box to the top, making sure there is no empty space. Fill any empty areas inside your box with extra clothes, blankets, or crumpled newspaper to protect your items, as well as give the box additional support for the lids.

Overpacking

When packing your boxes, take care not to overpack them. Do not put all of your books in one box. Put a few in each box and make sure the load is evenly distributed so that one side of the box isn’t heavier than the other. NOTE: Piece by Piece will not be held liable for damage to items in boxes that are overpacked. It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure that each box is packed properly.

Protection of items inside the box

If you are packing any fragile items in the box, please use some sort of protection for them (bubble wrap, towels, linens, etc.) to ensure that they do not break. While our movers take the utmost care of your belongings, the load inside of a box may shift while being transported.

Refrigerators

You MUST unplug and thaw your refrigerator a MINIMUM of TWO DAYS prior to your pickup. Mold and mildew may form inside your fridge which will not only ruin your fridge, but also runs the risk of ruining your other boxes and other peoples’ items. Our movers reserve the right to refuse to take any minifridges that have not been properly thawed.

High-value items

Piece by Piece Storage recommends that you DO NOT store the following items:

Money
Jewelry
Watches
Collectibles
Any fragile item with a high value
Birth Certificates, Social Security Cards, Passports, or any sensitive personal information
Credit Cards, Checkbooks, or any financial information
